My "New" CJ-5
My boss told me about an old Jeep, so out of curiosity, I went to check it out. What I saw was a beautiful old Jeep in pristine condition. The body was immaculate, the soft top was excellent, and the interior was better then factory. Thinking this Jeep would be about $4000, I smiled and went home. Again due to curiosity, I called to see the asking price. I was in disbelief that he wanted even less for the beaut. Although i wasn't in the market for a Jeep since I am in college, I rushed out to hear the engine. I ended up buying the Jeep that night after negotiating the price to an even thousand. It has the original F-head 4 cylinder making an anemic 75 horsepower, which doesn't compare to the Dauntless V-6 in my old Jeep. didn't get to play with it much since I went to college a week after I bought it.

front view (notice rancho steering stabilizer). The curved chrome bumper must be from a tuxedo park edition (this is the only explanation I could come up with for it. I was originally excited that the whole Jeep might be a tuxedo park, but the shifter was on the column in tuxedo parks, and by 1966, I believe the v-6 engine was standard in t.p.'s)
this is a home made swing away spare tire mount. using a drill and a few bolts, i quickly made it a mount for my hi-lift jack. i plan to use a padlock on the bottom to make it theft proof. cheap and easy! The small tubes welded at the corners are for the bows of the original soft top.
interior shot. these are original seats covered with fabric. i think it was a good idea to put a speaker in the space for the glove box. it has an aftermarket steering wheel which makes it tough to turn due to small diameter.
one of my favorite things about this Jeep is that the wipers are run by individual electric motors on top. my '68 used a vacuum moter on bottom of windshield frame. the bows kinda look ugly without the top so i must find a quick solution for that.
